If you haven’t heard by now, the next Central Island Studio Tour is set for May 5, 6 & 7!
Explore the natural and created beauty of the Central Island.
Comox Valley Arts is pleased to release the 2017 Central Island Arts Guide! Visit active, professional artisans in their natural environments, find new and beautiful works of art for your home, garden, office or personal adornment, share the beauty of the region by carpooling with friends.
This is latest evolution of the Central Island Studio Tour ? now in its 5th incarnation since May of 2015. Transitioning to a year round cultural tourism attraction, the Arts Guide features the tour as a barrier-free opportunity for visitors.
All studios in the 2017 guide are open on May 5 (4-9pm) and May 6 & 7 (10am-5pm). Artists will be in attendance at each studio, to share their work and their process with you, answer your questions? and happily sell you their wares! Many studios feature multiple artists, too!
Visitors have a full nineteen hours over three days to visit studios between Parksville and Black Creek. Tour organizers recommend spending the Friday evening close to home, checking out your most local studios, and taking a weekend adventure to explore beyond your neighbourhood.
The guide includes both well-known and emerging creators of many genres ? from classic realism and abstract acrylics to upcycled metal & glass sculpture. You?ll find master leather crafters, jewellery-makers, wood sculptors, oil & acrylic land and seascapers, fused and kiln-fired glass makers, furniture craftsmen, potters and ceramicists, photo-collagers, weavers, pyrographers, traditional and contemporary stained glass designers, even a florist, a lamp maker and a figurine sculptor!
There is no fee to visit the studios, and many will have surprise treats to share on Studio Tour weekend, as well as great in-studio pricing for their work. Every tour has welcomed at least 30% NEW studios, and in five tours, more than 200 different studios have been featured, with an estimated 75,000 total studio visits!
The Central Island Arts Guide is a new year-round reference of creative producers from Parksville to Campbell River. It includes short descriptions and a photo of each studio, including full contact details, a fold-out map and an interactive Google? map app!
Arts Guides are available throughout Vancouver Island and on all major BC Ferries routes between the mainland and the Island. They are also available by mail order!
