Local music and art collective CVGBs is offering a bit of a change of pace to the oldies acts regularly offered as culture to local music fans. Vancouver’s Calm Like A Bomb are Canada’s premier Rage Against The Machine tribute act and will be bringing their high energy show to Courtenay. Joining them will be Cumberland’s own F.O.D., who will perform Green Day’s classic Dookie album in its entirety. In addition to the harder edge and slightly more youthful nature of these tribute acts, a scheduling conflict has caused a last moment venue change and the concert will take place in the upstairs banquet room and lounge at the Comox Valley Curling Centre. CVCC manager Keith Parry points out that while the curling season lasts upwards of 7 months; once the ice comes out, the Curling Centre has been host to a growing number of off season activity including Roller Derby games, Celebrations of Life, canine scent detection competitions, roller disco, weddings, trade shows, corporate meetings, comedy shows, private parties, and beyond. Parry offers that, “the facilities are diverse, the dance floor is one of the largest in town, and we are completely open minded regarding sharing the space. Everyone is always welcome”. Calm Like A Bomb and F.O.D. will storm the Curling Centre on Friday June 16. The concert is All Ages, doors are at 7 PM.
