SING FOR THE SAKE OF IT!
Did you know that doctors in the UK are prescribing that their patients join a choir to help manage depression? Singing feels good. Studies have repeatedly shown that singing in community has physical, mental, emotional, and social benefits. Raising our voices together results in vibrations that have a strong positive effect on our sense of belonging and connectedness.
Have you felt daunted by the commitment required to belong to a performing choir? Choral Valley is thrilled to announce the creation of a new Drop-In, Non-Performing singing opportunity! It’s called Resonation – a Good Vibes Song Circle, led by Wendy Nixon Stothert.
Meetings will be on Wednesdays 12-1 at the Little Red Church in Comox, starting Sept. 13th.
No experience or music reading is necessary, just a desire to feel that special magic that comes from joining voices together with a focus on Joy and Community. Each stand alone session/meeting is $15-$25 sliding scale payable by cash or e-transfer.
Songs will be beautiful, easy to catch on to, taught by rote, and will be about Connection to ourselves, to each other, and to the environment. There will be simple and beautiful harmonies, rounds, toning, and maybe even some circle song style improv.
It’s about uplifting and being uplifted through the sound of our collective voices. We won’t be “rehearsing” or working towards getting the music “perfect”. The focus is on Joy and Connection.
Wendy Nixon Stothert.B.Ed., MEdL, is a skilled choir director with over 25 years of experience. She currently leads five performing choirs in the Comox Valley, including the three Just in Time Choirs, the Canadian Military Wives Choir – Comox, and the Berwick Choir. Last year, she was awarded the Arts Ambassador Local Hero Award by the Comox Valley Record. “I love the magical feeling of hearts and voices soaring together in harmony,” says Nixon Stothert. “I’m looking forward to what will happen with a group of singers who aren’t focused on getting things perfect, but more on just throwing themselves into the collective sound we’ll make.”
If this sounds like what you’re into, please just show up! Your heart and soul will thank you for it.
