SUMMARY:Unsculpted!
DESCRIPTION:This afternoon workshop will connect you with the joy of creating for the sake of exploration\, humour\, and collaboration. Primarily utilizing modelling and assemblage\, we will cultivate a sense of possibility\, adventure and imagination. \nCreating with unexpected materials can lower our inhibitions\, giving us the playful experience of creating with curiosity and openness to the unexpected…just for the pleasure of it! \nUnsculpted is not about learning to sculpt with skilled technical expertise; it will expand your creativity though\, just not in the ways you might expect! \nThe activities in Unsculpted are intended to guide you back to your creative heart. The act of (art) creation can get so twisted up in our judgments of what constitutes ‘good’ that we completely lose touch with the joy of creating for the sake of exploration and playfulness. \nThis one-session workshop runs from 1 to 4pm with a mid-way break. Feel free to bring drinks and snacks. The $105 workshop fee includes GST and all materials supplied. Bring a friend discount of $25 each when 2 people sign up at the same time. Email kristinacampbellart@gmail.com to register.

SUMMARY:ES:MO live in Campbell River
DESCRIPTION:ES:MO is Elizabeth Shepherd and Michael Occhipinti\, two imaginative genre-defying musicians who create music that is uniquely their own. ES:MO fuses a love of songwriting with the inventive musicianship they’re known for as perennial Juno Award nominees (19 JUNO nominations between the two!) and veterans of the Toronto music scene. \nMichael Occhipinti’s huge palette of sounds and versatile skills has made him one of Canada’s most admired guitarists. He leads jazz orchestras\, plays afro-pop\, R&B\, funk\, and Sicilian folk music\, and does it all with finesse\, curiosity\, and virtuosity. He’s played with Bruce Cockburn\, Bill Frisell\, Trey Anastasio\, Laila Biali\, Andrea Bocelli\, the Toronto Symphoni and many more. \nElizabeth Shepherd is a classically trained pianist who turned to jazz through her love of old-school hip-hop. She’s been hailed as “wholly unique and unclassifiable\,” a “jazz virtuoso with a pop sensibility” blaring the boundaries between jazz\, R&B\, pop and hip-hop. Her soulful and ethereal voice and keyboard work stunned listeners on ES:MO’s debut album The Weight of Hope\, which received a JUNO nomination in 2022. The album was built around the duo’s unique interpretations of songs by Stevie Wonder\, Bruce Cockburn\, Jackie Shane\, Nick Drake and others. \nThe second ES:MO album SUNSHINE IN MY BONES which comes out just before this tour is a celebration of the duo’s own compositions built on hours of jam sessions\, found sounds such as washing machines\, improvised voice and guitar loops\, and the magical connection Elizabeth and Michael have when they create music together. Their thoughtful songs explore everything from war crimes to cruise ship class warfare\, love among tulips\, and the need for human connection. On the recording they’re joined by guest drummers Larnell Lewis\, Jinu Isac\, Tony Ferraro\, and Marito Marques. For this west coast tour they’ll be joined by Tony Ferraro on drums and Derek Fillippo on bass.

Most shows are with the incredible SUNN O)))\nThe rock canon has many anti-heroes\, Black Mountain being the latest. In the past\, Can’s ‘Tago Mago’ established that the only rule in rock and roll is that there are no rules. Delinquent proto-metallers Black Sabbath demonstrated that you can make a lot from not that much. Now Black Mountain teach us that you don’t have to be afraid of the past to move bravely into the future.Black Mountain is a Canadian psychedelic rock band from Vancouver\, British Columbia. The band is composed of Stephen McBean\, Jeremy Schmidt\, Adam Bulgasem\, Amber Webber\, and Arjan Miranda. Since forming in 2004\, Black Mountain has released five globally celebrated LPs: Black Mountain (2005)\, In the Future (2008)\, Wilderness Heart (2010)\, IV (2016) and Destroyer (2019)https://www.blackmountainarmy.com/https://blackmountain.bandcamp.com/https://www.instagram.com/blackmountainarmy/https://www.facebook.com/BlackMountainOfficialhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Mountain_(band)\n\nwith special guests from VictoriaSMALL PLEASURESSmall Pleasures is a post-punk duo from Victoria\, Canada.Inspired by early 80s dark-wave pioneers\, the band is a fusion between Viny’s fuzzed out bass backed by Nevada’s textured drums and triggered synth mixed with lofty vocal melodies. Currently\, Small Pleasures are working on their sophomore album recorded by Colin Stewart at The Hive\, with a release planned for the summer of 2026. In the past year\, the duo toured Japan\, France and played multiple shows and festivals across Canada. April 2026 will see the return of the band overseas\, with dates in Germany\, Austria and France.\n\nand just as special guests from Powell RiverELECTRIC BRAINSPower pop\, punk rock and roll from qathet BC! These guys ruled at the Dead Soft/K Car roller skating night last summer! Before that all those fortunate enough to catch the Dead Bob show at the Waverly will recall the rawkus punk rock celebration that was Electric Brains (then called the Kicks) who worked the room into a frenzy. Electric Brains count among their members a certain Sean Hawryluk\, a crucial member of both Kelowna/Vancouver’s legendary Ladyhawk\, and then hardcore metal pathcutters Baptists.https://open.spotify.com/artist/6YHbb1RXqz1WvSsAhWQzET…https://www.instagram.com/electric__brains/\n\nCVGBs is a loose collective bringing oddball music\, art\, & culture to the Comox Valley.https://cvgbs.com/upcomingshows/

Many if not all participants will get to work through their song with a live band (we’ll do our best to get to everyone!) — The One Spot Ramblers — and if something special happens\, there may be an invitation to perform at the Friday night Ramble Fest show. \nBring your notebook\, your instrument if you have one\, and your ears. Just show up with an open mind\, ready to create!

DESCRIPTION:Presented by Highway 19 Concerts and hosted by J. Plank\, the summer festival edition of Ramble at the Merville Hall features two summer nights of music collaboration and community. Plank and his stellar Vancouver Island house band. \nFriday:\nLindi Ortega – guitar\, vocals & songs\nG. Lee Worden – guitars\, keys\, vocals & songs\nJ. Plank – musical director\, host\, guitars & vocals\nChris Mason – bass\, vocals\nDallas Carrie – drums\, vocals\nPlus guests from the first Ramble songwriting workshop \nSaturday:\nBrandon Isaak – guitars\, vocals & songs\nChristy Vanden – guitars\, vocals & songs\nJ. Plank – musical director\, host\, guitars & vocals\nG. Lee Worden – guitars\, keys\, vocals\nChris Mason – bass\, vocals\nDallas Carrie – drums\, vocals \nPlank (Jeff Plankenhorn) is a highly respected blues and roots musician known for his skill as a slide guitarist\, songwriter\, and vocalist\, both as a solo artist and as a sought-after session musician. After years in the Austin music scene\, Plank calls Campbell River home while he continues to tour across the continent and beyond. Lee Worden\, Chris Mason\, and Dallas Carrie round out the house band of Island aces. \nRoots-noir artist Lindi Ortega\, a two-time Canadian Country Music Award-winning singer-songwriter\, has long captivated audiences with her signature vibrato\, magnetic stage presence\, and hauntingly soulful voice. Renowned for her ability to blend the ethereal with the evocative\, Ortega’s artistry transcends genre labels\, weaving stories that linger long after the last note fades. Her 2024 album From the Ether marked a poignant return to music following a prolonged hiatus brought on by vocal struggles\, the profound loss of her father\, and the dissolution of her nearly five-year marriage. These deeply personal challenges became the crucible for her artistic resurgence\, reigniting her passion for songwriting and performance. The album pushes the boundaries of traditional roots music\, embracing a haunting\, atmospheric quality that is distinctly Ortega’s own. Esoteric yet deeply relatable\, enigmatic yet undeniably raw\, Ortega is a master storyteller who defies convention. Whether gracing the hallowed stage of the Grand Ole Opry or commanding stadiums alongside Chris Stapleton\, hers is a voice that you don’t want to miss. \nBrandon Isaak takes a dash of Taj Mahal\, a sprinkle of B.B. King and a few drops of Lighting Hopkins\, stirs it up\, and simmers on low. This Yukon-born\, Island-based songster performs a mixture of thoughtful\, humorous\, spiritual and catchy memorable songs; delivered with world class guitar\, harmonica and vocals. Isaak has honed his craft over the past 37 years and it shows every night. Formerly guitarist and singer for the much loved Vancouver band the Twisters\, and under the name Yukon Slim\, Isaak has come into his own as a self-titled solo artist praised for his lo-fi sound and commitment to the blues tradition. He has played in three continents and 8 country and picked up two Juno nominations\, a half dozen Western Canadian Music Award and Maple Blues Award nominations nominations each. His latest album Walkin With The Blues was recently won Canadian Blues Music Award for song of the year\, electric album of the year\, and guitarist of the year. \nChristy Vanden is a wickedly talented multi-instrumentalist in the Comox Valley and popular guitar teacher at Long & McQuade Music. Whether playing lead guitar with Brodie Dawson and She Could Be Trouble or Karen Lee Batten\, playing drums for Oktiv6 and Funkyard or the Cloud District\, as a member of party juggernaut Time Well Wasted\, or playing her own solo material at small stages around the region\, her understated skill and musicality always shines. \nLee Worden is a multi-instrumentalist and singer with over 4 decades of professional touring and studio experience. He is equally at home on guitar\, bass\, keyboards or drums. He has performed with Al Harlow\, Mike Reno\, Corb Lund\, Ryan McMahon\, Tom Russell\, Fernando Verela\, Kim Wilson and Bobby Rush\, was a member of Sweeney Todd with Nick Gilder and from 2008-2019 served as lead guitarist for the legendary Ian Tyson. \nThe Ramble is a family friendly\, licensed event.
