DESCRIPTION:Each month singer/songwriters gather to share their tunes at Artful : The Gallery. The range of abilities\, experience and genres welcomes musicians who appreciate the challenge (and the deadline!) of creating a new song each month. \nThe circle provides a place to be inspired\, seek feedback and to be able to hear what other creatives are working on. Most musicians bring along their guitars or ukuleles\, although some sing a cappella or use the in-house piano for accompaniment. \nHost Ashley Sykes’s love of connecting with other artists provides motivation to write\nand perform in the supportive group. The circle does not provide instruction; it provides an opportunity to perform your song\, and to be impacted by others doing the same. \nAttendance is by donation ($10 or pwyc). The group welcomes newcomers\, and the\nonly criteria is that the songs performed are original.

DESCRIPTION:Sara Donnelly presents “Seagoing Women” an illustrated talk in recognition of Women’s History Month\, at 7pm on Tuesday\, October 6th in the Courtenay and District Museum. \nJoin Donnelly for a fascinating conversation about her new book Seagoing Women: At Work which is a compelling collection of stories celebrating thirty-three women who have built extraordinary careers on the water. \nThrough vivid first-person accounts\, striking photographs\, and years of in-depth interviews\, Donnelly offers a rare glimpse into life offshore—from the physical demands and long stretches away from home to the ingenuity\, resilience\, and sense of purpose that define work at sea. \nOver a two-decade career as a journalist\, Sara Donnelly has also worked search and rescue with the Canadian Coast Guard\, commercial-fished on the northwest coast of Vancouver Island and served as a quartermaster on ferries. Her family has deep roots in marine industries\, with generations of fishers\, pilots and engineers. \nCopies of Seagoing Women: At Work (Harbour Publishing) will be available for purchase ($26.95 plus tax) and signing after the talk. \nAdmission to the evening is $5 per Historical Society member; $6 non-members (plus GST). SUMMARY:The Joy Factory – Creativity Through Clown
DESCRIPTION:A workshop for adults to explore clown as a potent source for creating in any artistic discipline.  No performance experience necessary\, just a willingness to be open\, present and play.  We will focus on: \n\nlistening with the whole body\novercoming fear through fun\, breath\, and a sense of pleasure\ndiscovering how to “be”  without needing to perform\nembracing the joy and power of failure\nusing physicalization to inspire and develop material\nexploring how to find humour without trying to be funny\n\nStudents are expected to attend all six sessions and prepare assignments in between. You will need to wear neutral\, comfortable clothing that you can move in freely. \nWe’ll meet on six consecutive Sundays: Oct. 18 & 25\, Nov. 1\, 8 & 15 from 2 pm – 6 pm\, and Nov. 22 from 2 pm – 8 pm. \nDeep Dive – All six sessions: $350.00 OR Dippity Do – First three sessions only: $175.00.  Reduction available for under- and unwaged. \nMaximum 10 participants.
