Comox Valley Arts is not a one-discipline pony…We are about ALL art forms and creative pursuits. Music is one that is heavily represented here in the valley, with 100s of extremely talented folks creating original work in all genres.
We’d like to encourage musical artists of all sorts to join us, and take advantage of the benefits of membership. More importantly, to connect with the rest of your community and share your gifts!

Alannah Clark: Alannah’s soulful melodies, and tender lyrics paired with her powerful voice and entertaining stage presence will inspire audiences of all ages. In spring 2018 she toured the UK and Europe with fellow Comox Valley singer songwriter, Joey Clarkson. Anela Kahiamoe: A multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter, raised in Hawaii, Anela’s early influences were gospel music and has been earning a living as a full-time musician from the age of 17. He currently make his home in the Comox Valley teaching and performing. Big Little Lions: Big Little Lions are the award winning band from BC, Canada and Ohio, USA born out of a collaboration that won Helen Austin a JUNO Award in 2014. Bobby Herron has been making music for decades in North America and Europe. His influences are all over the map so to speak. He’s had the distinct pleasure of working with hundreds of creative souls in all kinds of musical scenarios. He’s written and performed with the b-sides, Bob’s Yer Uncle, Millions of Brazillians, Mango Dub, Mongrel Bitch, bigredtruck, Perseverance Creek and Emily Cars. In addition to performing Bobby has enjoyed recording in his secret laboratory. His latest musical project involves getting together with some great local guys and playing instrumental groove music. Brodie Lee Dawson: Named ‘Vocalist of the Year’ @ VIMA’s and nominated for ‘Best Live Act’ for 2 years consecutively, Brodie Lee Dawson is a force to be reckoned with. Her voice will leave you spellbound… Her music: “Soulful folky blues with a twist of pop and a twang of old school country”. Chad Pab: Chad might be best known as an upright bass player that backs up many artists in the Comox Valley. But as a solo act his genre is hard to describe because of his wide spectrum of influences ranging from mellow acoustic and jazz, to heavier music like rock and metal. David Evans Johnson: I am an aspiring artist who likes to express a huge passion towards the heavy metal scene, preferably metalcore. As a musician, I am is skilled at several different instruments though preferably, I like to play electric guitar and sing. My main influences come from many different bands I have listened to over the years. A few such examples being: We Came As Romans, The Amity Affliction and Whitechapel.

Glen Gravell (Valley Rocks): Never a professional performer, but all his life a player and poet. Years in the production end of music and years of travel and life eventually led to having written a lot of songs. So it’s time to get out and play some of them. Or risk being like; someone who knits sweaters that get kept in the drawer, or builds homes no one ever lives in.

Horribilis : From the Comox Valley, Horribilis is an experimental Death-Metal project formed by Jesse Bevans and later joined by Ryan Schmeister. Jeanne MacGrotty: I am a local multi-media artist born on the mainland and migrated to the island in 1992\. I write poetry, stories, song and play guitar. As well I produce two and three-dimensional art: paintings, photography, prints and ceramics. My ECU grad installation was at CVAG in April 2016\. I continue to explore my creativity and wanted to share one of my compositions.

Kim June Johnson: Kim June Johnson is a Canadian singer-songwriter and poet. Her live shows combine song, storytelling and poetry and are often performed in living rooms and small halls. She is widely known in the Canadian house concert community. Critics have long praised her moving, angelic vocals and her craftsmanship as a songwriter. One River is an ever evolving band of songwriters and guest players who have only performed a few times in the valley under that moniker. Richard Spencer: Richard has been a servant of the art form/science of music for decades. He really enjoys performing, especially with an ensemble. Ryan Castle: Ryan Castle is a singer/songwriter living in the beautiful Comox Valley in British Columbia, Canada. Ryan’s main weapon of choice – other than voice – is the piano. Scott Lyle, Judy & Bruce Wing, Blaine Dunaway & Greg Sumner: Scott Lyle is a Comox Valley resident. He played five years as bassist/guitarist in the quintet 5Play and now has a trio called Coast to Coast with Lainie Laughlin & Corey Francis. Gypsy Wagon was written by Grant Simpson of Whitehorse, Yukon and recorded by Judy & Bruce Wing. The track features Judy Wing on backup vocals, Bruce Wing on bass, Blaine Dunaway on violin, Greg Sumner on coronet and Scott on guitar/ vocals.
Shawn Pigott: Based in Cumberland, Shawn Pigott uses his skills in music composition to create distinctly West Coast sounds. He composes custom soundtracks, video game scores, and stock music, and his work has been used around the world in movies, podcasts, promotional projects, and educational materials. Stella Swanson: Stella Swanson is a twelve-year-old singer/songwriter from Comox who launched her debut album, ‘I’m Not a Bunny,’ in December of 2014. The album exceeded everyone’s expectations, selling more than 900 copies and garnering nominations from Breakout West and The Canadian Folk Music Awards. Steve & Vivian Ruskin: In their over 35 years as a duo, have been influenced by many musicians and genres. They slide comfortably from ballads to blues, celtic to contemporary, rockabilly to reggae, folk to jazz, with originals and a dash of Latin added to the mix.
Sweet Santa Fe: Sweet SantaFe, not only performs as a duo, they also have performed with Doug Cox, Sue Medley and Helen Austin of Big Little Lions in the Comox Valley Achievement awards. They have shared the stage with Matt Epp, Celeigh Cardinal, Dave Kelly and Christine Collister, and Terry ‘Harmonica’ Bean. Too Hot For Covers: The songs, were performed by available musicians who have met and played at jams. Some songs on the set-list they have never heard before or only played once or twice. The musicians perform spontaneously with the freedom to play what they deem fits.
