On Wednesday afternoons you will still be able to shop at the Comox Valley Farmer’s Market in the same physically distant, controlled way that has been established for the Saturday Markets at the Comox Valley Exhibition grounds. CVFM will continue to adapt their approach to ensure you can get the necessary fresh food through pre-ordered online methods (cvfm.ca) and physically distanced shopping. Follow the Farmer’s Market at cvfm.ca, Facebook, Twitter or Instagram for the most up to date details.
Artisan vendors will be a different story. As summer market attendance is lower than normal, there is a lot more financial risk for vendors and CVA alike.
Comox Valley Arts has recognized the opportunity to support vendors in other ways. The way people like to engage with arts and crafts products lends itself less well to physically distant shopping. The steps and staff required to ensure the safety of guests, vendors, and staff – in accordance with Provincial Health Orders and WorksafeBC Guidelines – makes the event unsustainable at this time.
These changes are both bittersweet and exciting. Much pondering, scheming and research has led us to these decisions. We are keeping on top of developments and following health expert’s guidelines and it is our sincere hope that next summer, we can reinstate the full downtown weekly open-air markets you’re accustomed to… and more!
Arts & Crafts Vendors
There are privately organized markets being created. We recommend joining the Comox Valley Vendor Network group on facebook to watch for these opportunities and to collaborate with others on creating them together.
