Comox Valley is home to many 100s of experienced, established and well-known artists across an array of genres. PRACTICE is a sharing process to capture and distribute the incredible stories of their creative journeys.
Through livestream, podcasts, video and blog posts, we will visit with and explore the lives of many of these artists, and plan to continue adding to the archive beyond the length of this project.
In multiple formats, such as “artists at play” and “ask me anything”, audiences will get glimpses into how creativity manifests, where it comes from, what inspires it, and what it takes to bring it to life.
We’ll explore the social return on investment when artists are supported and their environment fosters their growth and contribution to their communities.
Live multi-genre panel discussions will offer unique perspectives and insights on topics like health & wellness as an artist, political, social and environmental activism through artworks, and how to keep going when the going gets tough.
Artist talks, featuring local and visiting artists in a variety of artforms, give barrier free access and education for emerging artists and appreciators who want to understand more deeply about the practice of each artist.
All events will be broadcast live, online, and be available in video (with subtitles) and audio-only (podcast) formats in a public archive, with transcriptions and resource materials.
To supplement the sharing of the artists, PRACTICE also includes a learning component – clinics and coaching in “talking about your work” and “self-promotion for artists” as well as myriad technical workshops will help artists gain more confidence and competence to share their practices.
CV/Arts is pleased to present this 8-month project and celebrate the accomplishments and contributions of our artists with the world.
This project has been funded in part by the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program.
We are currently accepting proposals from Senior Artists who would like to offer an Artist Talk or Workshop about their practice.
We are also accepting volunteers for the Media Team, and venue hosts.
