Vancouver Island author and historian Ian Kennedy will present an illustrated talk based on his new book, “The Best Loved Boat: Princess Maquinna”, 7 pm, Tuesday, March 12th at the Courtenay and District Museum.

“The Best Loved Boat” takes readers on a 1924, imaginary journey, up and down the West Coast of Vancouver Island on the BC built SS Princess Maquinna. The CPR ship made the 1500km round-trip, from Victoria to Holberg, three times a month serving the many isolated communities on the West Coast from 1913-1952. The people who lived there grew very attached to the ship and its crew relying on them for their supplies, spare parts, medical emergencies, news, and transportation, becoming so attached to the ship that they often referred to it as the “Best Loved Boat.”

Copies of “The Best Loved Boat” will be available for purchase (Books are available for purchase for $35.  Cash or cheque only. Harbour Publishing) and signing after the talk.

Ian Kennedy is the author of several books about BC history including 2010’s “The Life and Times of Joseph McPhee, Courtenay’s Founding Father” and co-author of “Tofino and Clayoquot Sound: A History” with Margaret Horsfield published in 2014.
