Program Assistant (Summer Student or Youth Position)

Comox Valley Arts is hiring a Program Assistant for a summer student role funded through Canada Summer Jobs. Employment duration will depend on funding agreements and may be between 8 and 16 weeks.

Compensation and hours

  • $20.00 per hour
  • 30–40 hours per week (schedule and exact hours to be confirmed)

Eligibility

  • Ages 15–30
  • Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person with refugee status in Canada
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada with a valid SIN
  • Some positions may require current student status (high school, college, or university)

Role overview

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Program Assistant will support day-to-day arts council operations and help deliver summer initiatives. Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with planning and delivery of summer events and programs (e.g., Pulse on the Plaza, summer art camps)
  • Supporting teaching artists and event coordinators
  • Documenting programs and events through photography and/or video
  • Assisting with program and office administration

Preferred qualifications

  • Studying or experienced in fine arts, arts education, arts administration, cultural management, communications, graphic design, visitor services, or a related field
  • Strong interest in the arts and community engagement
  • Good customer service skills and a positive, collaborative attitude
  • Proficient with common office software (e.g., MS Office)
  • Strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills

Other requirements

  • A criminal record check is required for roles that involve working with children.
